Healthquest Travel Credit Series - Frequently Asked Questions

African Medical Research & Education Foundation-Nairobi, KENYA Session: Delivering Healthcare with Limited Resources
Q: What Kind of Credits are issued?
Programs provide the following credits, depending on the Credit Sponsors

A: For Physicians: CME Category 1
All programs with CME credits are AMA CATEGORY 1 Credit for physicians issued though our educational partners comprised of schools of medicine and medical associations that are accredited by the AACME to provide medical education to physicians.

Nurse & Physician Assistants Credits: AMA Category 1 Credit Certificates are issued to participating Nurses & PA’s. Most Nurse and PA Associations recognize this category of credit as valid and applicable to their profession. Some programs do provide contact hours for nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.

A: For Pharmacists: ACPE Approved Credits
All pharmacy ACPE credits are issued through our educational partners comprised of schools of pharmacy and pharmacy associations that are approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education.

Q: Are they TAX Deductible?
A:
At the completion of the accredited travel programs, all registered participants receive a certificate of attendance. Under current tax laws, and with input from our National Board of Healthcare Advisors, our programs are designed to comply with the test of reasonableness for educational travel abroad. However, as always, we do recommend you consult your accountant.

Q: How Many Credits are issued per Course?
A:
It varies depending on the course offered. Credits issued average a minimum of 10-12 hours per program. This information is included in the complete program packet sent to you.

Q. Can anyone participate in these travel programs?
A:
ABSOLUTELY! Programs are designed to give individuals not participating in the educational sessions opportunities to explore the unique natural history & culture of the many fascinating destinations offered. Sessions are planned to optimize natural history & cultural interaction, and maximize time with traveling companions. However, since many of our educational experiences are “in the field” - rainforests, savannah’s, reefs, villages, cultural sites-we find that the majority of participants join us in these special outings.

Q: Do traveling companions not receiving credits pay the same price?
A:
No, since the Credit Fee for the travel program is not applicable to the traveling companion. The fee varies according to program credit sponsorship.

Q: What is the typical Group Size on these Trips?
A:
The average group size is between 15-20 participants, plus the program faculty.
